The Call to Choose

I love Psalm 1. In fact I memorized the entire psalm from the King James Version when I was a teenager. Great advice.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Even today I am not disturbed by the fact that the psalm is speaking to a man. I always felt he also meant me, a woman.

The topic the psalmist wants to address is the company you choose. His advice is “Be careful who you hang with!”

Now that I am in the latter quarter of my life, I look back to the many times his advice helped me choose with whom to associate. Likewise there were many times when I had no choice because they were my co-workers and family.

I don’t think the psalmist meant for us not to associate with anyone who might be suspect but to be discerning as to who we follow. This is why he poetically used walk, stand, and sit. He points out how the ways we choose to associate as well as who we choose to hang with can affect us in everyday living.

Today that includes social media. Who do you choose to hang with?
